Overview
textbee is an open-source SMS gateway that turns your own Android phone into an SMS API, so you can send and receive messages without Twilio or per-message fees. It offers a REST API, a web dashboard, and an MCP server for AI agents, with API-key auth, webhooks for incoming messages, CSV bulk sending, and multi-device support for higher throughput. Self-host it for full data control, or use the free hosted plan. Common uses include OTP/2FA, notifications, and server alerts.
